Add Water Sensors to Expand Alarm Coverage Water alarm with AC charger or battery back-up feature has increased coverage when additional moisture sensors are added. Flood Detective (not included) water leak sensors each have an eight foot (2.44 meters) long flexible, low-impedance corrosion-resistant wire with a two-prong jack on one end. The jack plugs into the water sensor plate receptacle. This water sensor design allows multiple sensors to be daisy-chained to a single alarm unit. In theory, there is no limit to the number of sensors that can be daisy-chained to a Flood Detective water alarm unit. However, 5 water alert sensors per alarm seems optimal in determining which sensor activated due to a water leak. Each water alert sensor detects as little as 1/32" (0.8 millimeters) of water, sounding the alarm at the earliest sign of a leak. Each water leak sensor also has an adhesive backing for firm attachment and optimum orientation to detect water. Use a single Flood Detective water alarm unit inside the kitchen sink cabinet to monitor sensors placed under the sink trap, garbage disposal, water filter and dishwasher. Daisy-chaining also extends the reach of the sensors, as each additional sensor adds another 8 feet (2.44 meters) of potential coverage. Features
The water-sensing cable detects dampness along its entire 4-foot length and can be easily tucked away near appliances or hidden under baseboards around carpet. A separate RWD41-compatible 8-foot extension cable (the RWD80) is available for an even more comprehensive range. The base unit (powered by a 9-volt battery, not included) can be mounted on a wall or another flat surface and comes with a 6-foot leader cable. Installation is a cinch thanks to plug-and-play features built into the system: Just add batteries, plug in the leader cable and the water-sensing cable, and mount the base unit with two-sided tape (which the securing clips also employ to hold the water-sensing cable in place). An 80-decible alert sounds when water is detected, permitting for early discovery and intervention of leaks, and can be turned off by wiping the sensor cable with a dry cloth.

Leak Detection and Protection
Water damage is the second-leading cause of home insurance claims nationwide, and 80 percent of all home water claims are caused by plumbing and major appliances. A surprisingly large amount of water can escape from the smallest of cracks--a 1/8-inch crack in a pipe can release up to 250 gallons of water a day.
